Something Delicious is coming your way!

How to Style the Perfect Summer Tablescape

When it comes to summer dining, one of our favourite parts is decorating the table to set the scene for a delicious feast. Creating the perfect tablescape takes a little bit of planning and hard work, but it's definitely worth it. If you want your next dinner party, event or summer feast to be extra special, use these tips to create a beautiful summer tablescape.

Plan your theme

Start off by planning your theme and colour scheme. Think about your venue, the style of event you're hosting and the food you'll be serving, and choose a theme or colour scheme which compliments this. Here are a few of our favourite ideas for summer tablescape themes:

  • Jungle vibes - lots of fresh greenery, tropical leaf prints, gold accents and quirky touches like pineapple ornaments
  • English country garden - rustic accents, neutral and natural colours, freshly picked wildflowers and china crockery
  • Bright and boho - lots of colour, bright floral posies, coloured glass and servingware, natural wood accents
  • New England nautical - fresh blue and cream colours, simple floral arrangements and nautical stripe patterns

Choose the essentials

When it comes to planning a beautiful summer tablescape, there are a few essentials you'll need to remember. Things like plates, cutlery and glasses are a must. Choose ones that fit in with your theme, and mix and match to create interest. For example, layer a white plate on top of a larger patterned or coloured plate, and accessories with gold cutlery and gold-rimmed wine glasses.

Depending on the style of your event, you might need some other essentials too. Will you be serving feasting-style courses with serving dishes placed in the centre of the table? Will you need multiple glasses for fizz, wine and cocktails? Will you need place name settings?

Add some flowers and greenery

One of the simplest and most effective ways to decorate your table is to add some flowers or greenery. Again, choose a style that will work with your theme. Don't just stick a vase of flowers in the middle of the table - get creative! Try lots of little jam jars filled with wildflower posies, or drape a table runner made of ivy along the middle of the table. Go for a couple of big bunches of flowers for a more formal occasion, or lots of little ones for a more casual tablescape.

Forget the centrepiece

Forget the dated, traditional idea of having one big centrepiece in the middle of the table. Instead, go for a more modern approach with lots of small decorations. Layer things up to create height or dot things around the table. Look out for patterned table runners, decorative candlesticks or lanterns, bowls of fruit, serving trays, jugs and vases - even things like books can make quirky and unusual table decorations!

Add your accessories

To tie everything together, finish off your summer tablescape with a few accessories. Think napkins which match your colour scheme and placemats or decorative place settings which tie into your theme. Think outside the box when it comes to accessorising - use wine bottles or cocktails shakers as part of your decor, or add in decorative foodie touches like beautifully decorated serving boards.
