Perfect for autumn and winter weddings, woodland luxe is a big wedding trend for 2017/2018. It’s the ideal way to bring the outdoors in. If you don’t want a formal wedding, woodland luxe is great for creating a whimsical, relaxed atmosphere with plenty of cosy, seasonal touches plus a little bit of luxury.
Woodland Luxe Venue
The ideal location for this wedding trend is (of course!) a woodland. Marquees and tipis aren’t just for summer. When decked out with fairy lights, candles and cosy blankets they make the perfect setting for an autumn/winter woodland luxe wedding. A converted barn with views of the countryside could also be a great option. Whatever you choose, make sure your venue has a relaxed vibe and plenty of scope to decorate with seasonal foliage.
Woodland Luxe Decor
The main focal point of your decor will be stunning floral and foliage arrangements. Use deep colours (like burgundy, raspberry and dark green) for your colour palette, and get your wedding florist to create relaxed, informal arrangements. Think small posies of wildflowers, trailing foliage table decorations and a big, messy (on purpose!) bouquet which looks like it has just been picked from the woodland.
Mix these floral arrangements in with other natural touches, like wooden tables, hessian table runners and wild berry decorations. Don’t forget to add a little bit of luxe with touches of gold or copper. Rather than looking rustic, you want the woodland theme to appear luxurious and sophisticated, so decorate with things like gold candlesticks, gilded mirrors and crystal glasses.
Woodland Luxe Bridal Wear
In keeping with the rest of the wedding, it’s a good idea to choose a relaxed style of dress for your woodland luxe wedding. You still want it to look chic and sophisticated, but avoid anything too traditional or formal. We love lace dresses with full length sleeves and a slinky 1920s silhouette - perfect for autumn and winter! Woodland luxe is a bit like the grown up, winter version of a summer boho wedding - so embrace the same kind of dress styles, but with a seasonal twist such as long sleeves. Finish the look off with a dainty foliage crown, or some berry coloured flowers dotted throughout your hair style.
As for the bridesmaids, stick to similar deep jewel tones when choosing the colour of their dresses. Look out for luxurious fabrics like silk or velvet, and full length dresses look particularly stunning.
Woodland Luxe Food & Drink
This type of wedding is ideal for a feasting menu. A bit like a relaxed version of a banquet, feasting menus include lots of family-style dishes that can be served up at the table and shared amongst guests. Work with your caterer to choose some delicious seasonal options which are the perfect mix between elegant contemporary dining and old favourite comfort food dishes.
For drinks, you can’t go wrong with champagne! The ultimate luxe drink, serve it to guests outside in the woodland (weather permitting!) so they can enjoy a glass of champagne while exploring the beautiful scenery. You could also set up a mini cocktail bar within the marquee, allowing guests to mix up their own drinks. An Old Fashioned is the perfect warming, wintery woodland cocktail!
On to the cake, and we’d recommend rich flavours like chocolate and caramel. If you’re not a fan of traditional fruit cake, opt for a decadent chocolate fudge cake or salted caramel sponge. Decorate with gold leaf, metallic edible paint, fresh winter berries and flowers or foliage.
