Happy New Year! Hope you all had a lovely Christmas and New Year celebrating with your friends and families.
Our 2018 calendar is looking pretty busy already, and we can’t wait to get stuck in to another year of beautiful weddings. If you’re a bride- or groom-to-be this year and are making plans for your 2018/2019 wedding, here are some of the biggest wedding trends to look out for.
Greenery and modern floral arrangements have been a huge trend for the last few years, but in 2018 it’s going to be all about the hanging florals. From foliage wreaths hung along the aisle, to upside-down hanging gardens of flowers over each table, displaying flowers in this unique way is going to be big in 2018.
Ultra Violet and Navy
Pantone have named “Ultra Violet” the colour of the year for 2018, and we’re likely to see lots of it in wedding colour schemes this year. From subtle purple flowers mixed in with neutral floral arrangements, to pretty violet hued bridesmaid dresses, purple is the colour to watch out for.
Navy will also be a big colour trend for 2018 weddings, making its way onto wedding invites, the groom’s suit and even table runners.
Instead of a traditional dessert course to end the meal, more and more couples are opting for a dessert table at their wedding. This offers the chance to be a bit more creative and offer a selection of quirky desserts. Why not try a DIY ice cream sundae bar, a donut pyramid and a macaron tower, as well as a selection of homemade cupcakes, brownies and other bakes?
Metallics have been a big trend over the past few years, and 2018 is the turn of copper. Forget gold or silver, and opt for warm copper and rose gold tones. Add subtle touches (such as candle holder centre pieces or copper foil lettering on invites) or go all-out with industrial style copper chairs, sequinned bridesmaid dresses or even copper cutlery.
Moving away from plain and understated dresses, wedding dresses in 2018 are set to have lots of pretty embellishments and accents. Keep things subtle with pearls studded into the fabric of the dress, or go extravagant with 3D flowers sewn onto your gown. For the more daring bride, black accents are set to be a big trend for 2018, with beautiful black lace embellishments being seen on several dresses on the catwalk.
Forget a traditional three course dinner, it’s going to be all about casual feasting and street food in 2018. Get a few of your favourite street food trucks to set up outside your venue to create your own mini festival atmosphere, where guests can choose from options like tacos, artisan pizza or Japanese gyoza. Even if you can’t have street food trucks at your wedding, it’s easy to incorporate this style of food in a sit-down meal - just make sure to keep things casual, serve family-style sharing dishes and use your favourite flavours from across the world.
Smaller guest lists
In 2018, there will be a trend for much smaller weddings. Rather than inviting everyone they’ve ever known, more couples are keeping their guest lists short and sweet. Not only does this ensure that only people you really love will be at your big day, but it also means you can do your wedding on a budget - or spend a little bit more per person as you’ll be catering for less people!
The Scandinavian influence will remain strong in 2018. From rustic woodland venues to minimal, stylish decor, many couples will be taking inspiration from Denmark and Sweden this year. Look out for light natural colours, lots of wood and greenery, minimal and elegant stationery and plenty of cool, understated touches.
