After overindulging at Christmas, lots of us make “eating healthier” one of our New Years Resolutions. But by the time we get to the end of January, it’s easy to fall back into old habits and reach for the comfort food.
But we believe that healthy eating isn't just for January - we should be able to enjoy it all year round. One of the misconceptions about healthy food is that you have to eat small portions of boring dishes, but that’s simply not true! In today’s blog post we’ll be sharing some of our favourite ideas and recipes for healthy feasting menus - making it easy to include healthy food as part of a delicious, balanced diet.
The Salad Table
Forget limp lettuce leaves, salads should be all about colour, flavour and freshness. A salad table is a great idea if you’re entertaining guests, as all the prep can be done in advance. Choose a selection of your favourite seasonal salads and prepare all the ingredients the night before, then assemble everything as your guests arrive.
Salad tables are perfect for providing healthy dishes for people with a wide variety of tastes. You can include meat or fish, as well as veggie salads, and they can be served hot or cold. They’re great as accompaniments to a main dish if you’re serving an evening meal, or on their own for a delicious and healthy lunch.

- Grilled halloumi and peach salad with lemon pesto
- Roasted sweet potato, lentil and feta salad
- Asian rice noodle salad with shredded chicken, cabbage and edamame beans

Vegan and Veggie Feasting
Whether you’re a vegan, a vegetarian or even a meat eater looking to try something new, a plant-based feast is a great option. As veggie dishes use lots of fruits, vegetables and natural grains, they tend to be pretty healthy.
Next time you’re hosting a veggie or vegan friend, rather than doing a separate dish for them, challenge yourself to create a mouthwatering vegan feast for everyone. Lots of ingredients and dishes are “accidentally vegan”, and many others can be altered by removing the meat or swapping ingredients for vegan alternatives.
Here are a few of our favourite veggie and vegan feasting dishes:
- Courgette, feta and mint filo tart
- Roasted butternut loaf with herbed potatoes
- Aubergine, potato and cherry tomato moussaka
- Sweet potato massaman curry with coconut rice
- Garlic and herb roasted root vegetables with grilled halloumi
- Tofu Pad Thai noodles
- Spicy three bean chilli with guacamole and tortilla chips
Healthy Family Feasting
Choosing healthy meals can sometimes be tricky when you’re short on time and trying to keep everyone in the family happy! But as long as you choose delicious dishes, everyone will be eager to dig in. Make simple swaps like using low fat Greek yogurt instead of double cream or low calorie oil instead of butter to make everyday dishes a wee bit healthier.
Also keep an eye out for healthy meals that can be prepared in advance - this will save you lots of time, especially if you’re cooking on a weeknight after you get home from work. Bulk out meals with plenty of veggies and serve with a couple of side salads to make it feel like a special feast, whilst keeping it healthy.
