Now that June is here, we can’t wait to start planning some summer get-togethers. And what could be better than a barbecue on a sunny summer day?
If you’re bored of the usual burgers and sausages, here are some of our favourite BBQ feasting ideas to take your barbecue to the next level. We’ve even included plenty of veggie and vegan-friendly ideas, so your barbecues will have something for everyone this summer.
BBQ Salad Table
The foundation of any good barbecue is the salad table. You don’t want your guests to go hungry while they’re waiting for the main event, so make sure your salad table is packed with delicious dishes they can graze on throughout the event. The salad table dishes also act as great accompaniments to the grilled meat and veggies once they’re ready.
Of course, you’ll want to start with a few classics like a good mixed leaf salad, a creamy potato salad and a peppery rocket salad. Then, add in some more unusual options like a spicy harissa couscous, roasted sweet potato and lentil salad, or a peach and basil caprese salad. You might want to stick to a theme (for example, Mediterranean style or American-inspired), or opt for a variety of dishes from across the world to suit all tastes.
Condiments & Accompaniments
Don’t forget all the other accompaniments for your BBQ salad table. It’s a good idea to lay out plenty of fresh bread for dipping, or rolls to create sandwiches and burgers with the grilled meat. You might also want to include some antipasti bits and pieces, like some cold meats, fresh mozzarella, pickles, olives, crudités and dips.
All good barbecues should also have a condiments station. Set up a small area with lots of sauces and dips so your guests can create their own perfect meal. Include things like mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, pickle, chutney, chilli sauce, guacamole, salsa, barbecue sauce, sour cream and any other condiments that take your fancy.
BBQ Grilled Meats
Now, on to the main event! Barbecues are often thought to be just burgers and sausages, but they can be so much more than that. Barbecues are a really versatile cooking tool, and you can grill just about anything on them. Whatever your favourite kind of meat or cuisine is, you’re sure to find a way to cook it BBQ style.
Here are a few of our favourite BBQ feasting ideas when it comes to the meat dishes:
- Minted lamb kofta skewers
- Cajun-style chargrilled ribeye steaks
- Whole rainbow trout with lemon and garlic
- Chicken satay skewers
- Thai-style salmon burgers
- Prawn and chorizo skewers
- Sticky char sui pork loin
As you can see, the possibilities are endless! Whatever recipe you choose, try and prepare it the night before your BBQ. The longer you can leave the meat to marinate, the more intense and delicious the flavour will be once it’s barbecued.
Veggie & Vegan BBQ Ideas
Don’t worry if you have some vegetarian or vegan guests coming, barbecues shouldn’t be just about the meat. It’s always a good idea to have a selection of vegetable based dishes, not only to keep the veggies happy, but also to balance out what can sometimes be a meat-heavy meal for everyone else.

- BBQ hasselback potatoes
