We’re big fans of using local produce as much as possible in our menus, and it’s no different when it comes to the drinks. It wouldn’t be a wedding without plenty of wine and fizz, so why not choose a delicious English variety to serve to your guests? There are a great selection of English wines on the market, and here are a few of our favourites that will help you celebrate your big day in style.
We’ve been working with Ridgeview Wines for the past few years, and they produce the most delicious English sparkling wines. Perfect for a sophisticated welcome drink, their wines are produced in their vineyard in the beautiful East Sussex countryside.
There are several varieties to choose from - we’d recommend the Fitzrovia Rose for a stunning summery blush pink fizz, or the Bloomsbury for a classic citrusy sparkling wine that goes fantastically well with canapés to get your wedding party off to a great start.
Nyetimber have been producing fantastic sparkling wines for over 25 years, with delicious varieties that can rival the best prosecco and champagne in the world. For welcome drinks at your wedding reception, we’d recommend serving the Nyetimber Classic Cuvee. It’s a very elegant sparkling wine with gentle bubbles, a pale gold colour and hints of honey, almond and baked apple flavours.
Albourne Estate is a boutique family-owned vineyard in West Sussex, located just a few miles outside of Brighton on the edge of the South Downs. If you’re looking for a unique, local drink to serve at your wedding, this could be the answer!
Albourne Estate create both still and sparkling wines. For welcome drinks at your wedding, opt for one of the delicious fizz varieties, such as the Rose de Noirs pink fizz. With dinner, choose one of the still wines to compliment your menu - we love the White Pinot Noir 2017 vintage which has rich, fruity elements of mulberry, apricot and peach.
Another great West Sussex-based vineyard is Bolney Estate. English red wines are quite rare (only around 10% of wine produced in England is red!) but Bolney Estate have a great selection. Their pinot noir is fantastic and would work really well with a variety of wedding menus, as this wine pairs well with chicken, rabbit, game, duck and pork.
Bolney Estate also produce some wonderful white wines, rose wines and sparkling wines, so you’re sure to find something to suit everyone!
Chapel Down, located in Kent, is one of England’s leading winemakers. The perfect drinks to serve at a wedding celebration, their wines are sophisticated and delicious, with a range of both still and sparkling varieties on offer.
Try their classic non-vintage brut for an elegant alternative to champagne. It has aromas of red apple, lemongrass and freshly baked bread together with hints of strawberry and quince. It’s the perfect drink to serve to wedding guests during the speeches to toast to a long and happy marriage.
